Course DescriptionPhysiology 335 is a 5-credit lecture and laboratory course offered by the Department of Physiology in the Fall, Summer, and Spring terms. In the Fall and Spring terms there are three 50-minute lectures, one 50-minute discussion, and one 2-hour laboratory per week. In the Summer (8-week) session there are four 75-minute lectures, two 2-hour labs, and one 75 minute discussion per week. Average enrollment in the Fall is 500, in the Summer is 75-100, and in the Spring is 300. This course is not open to Freshmen, and a general chemistry course as well as an introductory Biology or Zoology course are pre-requisites for all others. Topics covered include cell physiology (membrane transport, membrane potentials, action potentials, synapses, receptors and second messengers) as well as the major organ systems (nervous, muscular, endocrine, reproductive, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal and gastrointestinal). Exams are scheduled outside of regular class meetings (Evening Exams are given in the Fall and Spring). There are generally four multiple-choice, non-cumulative exams counting for between 80 and 92% of the course grade, while laboratory assignments and quizzes will constitute the remaining fraction of the final grade. The exact distribution varies from semester to semester. For more information about Physiology 335, please contact Kevin Strang (262-8298; strang@physiology.wisc.edu ) |
