This page contains information and instructions for students who are having difficulties registering for Physiology 335. Please read each of the items below carefully. If you find that none of them addresses your specific registration question, then send an email to ajlokuta@physiology.wisc.edu, with the SUBJECT line: NEW QUESTION, and your situation and question explained in the body of the email.
1. AVAILABILITY: Phys 335 is an extremely popular class, and unfortunately, we simply do not have enough seats to accommodate all of the students who want to take it. We sincerely apologize that some of you will not be able to take the class. We recently requested funding from the Provost that would allow us to increase our enrollment, but funds for teaching on this campus are limited, and our request was denied. So if you are denied access to this course, please be aware that our course administrators and staff are not ultimately to blame for this situation, and should not be dealt with angrily or disrespectfully.
2. LABS/DISCUSSIONS: When registering for Phys 335, you must register for lab and discussion separately. Make sure that you do NOT register for a lab and a discussion that meet at the same time on the same day.
3. BIOLOGY MAJORS: If you have tried to enroll and received the message that you do not have the prerequisites to enroll, it does not necessarily mean that you haven't taken the required background biology and chemistry courses. Please read the registration footnotes carefully. You will find a date listed when registration opens for biology majors. The order of registration in our course does not follow that of other courses, which enroll strictly according to seniority. Our course is a required part of the curriculum for a number of other majors, and enrollment only opens for biology majors to register after those students have had a chance. We're sorry if that seems unfair, but if students in those other majors don't take our class on time, it adds a full year to the time it takes them to graduate. They thus get priority over students wanting to take Phys 335 as an elective.
4. PRE- NURSING MAJORS: For specific enrollment instructions, you should contact your pre-nursing advisor.
5. WAITING LIST: Even though the course may be full when you try to register, significant numbers of students drop the course during, and just after, the registration period. We thus keep a waiting list, and enroll students from it on a first-come-first-served basis. If you would like to get on the waiting list, follow these instructions carefully: Send an email to ajlokuta@physiology.wisc.edu, with the SUBJECT: WAITING LIST. In the body of the email, include your full name (with middle initial), your major, and your email address. Do not include any other information or text in the body of the email.
6. SUMMER SESSION: If you are unable to register for fall or spring sessions, you might consider registering for the 8-week session in the summer. To date, that offering has never filled to capacity. Though the 8-week course is fast-paced, it features the best teacher/student ratio of any Phys 335 class.
7. If you've read this far and have not found the answer to your question about registering for Phys 335, see the opening paragraph for instructions on how to get your specific question answered.
